Rhode Island COBRE Opioids Hackathon

The Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) on Opioids and Overdose at Rhode Island Hospital (funded by the NIH) hosted a Hackathon on September 6-8 2019 in Providence RI, a gathering of community members, students, and professionals to brainstorm innovative solutions to the opioid crisis.”

RISD’s Center for Complexity team and Infosys employees teamed up with members of the community at the hackathon, winning both first and second place. The winning design team included nine graduates from our RISD Strategic Design Program (SDP) at the Providence Design & Innovation Center and supported by SDP graduates working from India.

The first place proposal – Mainstay – outlined a safe, compassionate, integrated space designed with the patient’s needs in mind providing support and services after waking up from an overdose in an emergency room.
