Collapse — 2022
Summer 2022—RISD Campus
June 2022 provided the opportunity to hold a live and in-person symposium on campus for the first time since the pandemic was declared. Grateful to be back in our community, CfC designed a 3-day event that created expanded opportunities for collaboration and student engagement. Keynote speakers were Chef Michael Lomonaco who survived the collapse of the twin towers on 9/11, Jack Halberstam, Professor of Gender Studies and English at Columbia University who expanded on their consideration of An Aesthetics of Collapse, and Kameelah Janan Racheed, american writer, artist and educator. Over three days, scholars, artists, students and members of the public engaged in consideration of issues from border and infrastructure collapse to the adaptable behavior of textiles and human beings in discussion that explored the intersections of art and science.
